I tend to disagree. The problem is that companies are notoriously bad at recognition. They don't want to pay you more or give you a better title. You have to ask for it (and do the work to be worth it).

Nothing bad comes from asking for recognition and advancement. If someone tries to use that against you, then it's the sign of a toxic person/company. Not a sign that you're not valuable.
