I'm surprised how many people in the comments have made this assumption. Or, assumed bash was the wrong tool for the job.

The principal engineer in question is excellent, quite up to date with modern best practices, and suggested we write a quick bash script based on the quick access to `curl` commands in the API docs we were working with.
